#TeechallaclothingLLC This weekend, the 2023 Coachella music festival kicks off in Indio, California. On the impressive roster for weekend one are headlining performers such as Bad Bunny, Blackpink, and Frank Ocean. (Personally, we’re excited for Blondie—can you say iconic?) These top musical acts are obviously the main draw, but the people watching and street style are just as widely anticipated. Since its inception in 1999, Coachella has evolved to become an event where one goes simply to be seen celebrities, in particular, have shown up in the crowds wearing the best, flashiest ensembles. In honor, Vogue is taking a look back at some of the most memorable trends to have come out of the festival. While Coachella took off in the 2000s, it’s the early 2010s where the music festival truly became a star studded street style event. Coachella regulars such as Katy Perry, Vanessa Hudgens, Zoe Kravitz, and championed the event’s sartorial spirit that is all about maximalism. The trending pieces? Think distressed denims, big belts, and—yes—those signature flower crowns. (Other fads, however, have not been as innocent Feathered headdresses and bindis also hit a peak at Coachella during the 2010s, but luckily have since subsided in popularity, especially as discussions around cultural appropriation continue to come to light.) The question is What will this year’s Coachella attendees wear? Will they remain true to past trends, or bring forward new style concepts? Only time will tell.
#TeechallaclothingLLC She’s fallen for the London based brand’s designs before, including its cult body skimming sequined Solaria dress, so it comes as no surprise she’s a fan of the Althenea mini. With its simple yet daring silhouette and retro embellishment, the mini ticks off everything she typically looks for in a dress. Hailey made the LBD her own with her signature low denier tights, pumps and slicked back bun. According to Hailey and the many other stars that have channelled retro style of late—count Katie Holmes and Taylor Russell in too—the ’80s are back, baby. Over the past decade, the Met Gala red carpet has only gotten bigger and better. The star studded event—and its various themes—have encouraged attendees to have unabashed fun on the red carpet, and it’s a spirit that has only been amplified as the gala has grown. If you compare the 2010 Met Gala to 2019’s camp theme, for instance, the difference is drastic What was once a sea of beautiful evening gowns has transformed into a showmanship of pure extravagance and risk taking. This year’s Met Gala will serve as a celebration of Karl Lagerfeld, highlighting the late designer’s one of a kind contributions to fashion while helming major fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, Balmain, and more. It will be co hosted by Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, and Anna Wintour. The red carpet dress code is “in honor of Karl, so you can expect celebrities to (hopefully) unearth and bring vintage Lagerfeld designs to the steps of the Met.
#TeechallaclothingLLC By day, Hailey Bieber is the definition of Y2K. In slouchy parachute pants, crop tops, leather jackets and slimline sunglasses, the model and beauty mogul regularly references the casual style codes of the Noughties while out and about in L.A. But come nighttime, Hailey is all about the ’80s from sheer black tights, to thigh grazing minidresses and outré bling. Hailey is a fan of the statement belts that were popular during the era—she had a Sandy from Grease moment in waist cinching Schiaparelli earlier this year, and sported a Saint Laurent belt and micro shorts last month. And this week, Hailey wore a strapless LBD emblazoned with a dazzling buckle round her chest (rather than her waist), from partywear favorite, 16Arlington.
