Also, I forgot to mention that I wrote to Loreena once, and told her that I use her songs when teaching poetry to my students. She sent back an autographed picture of herself, addressed to my students. I thought it was nice. I’d say when you’re willing to spend money on their music, concerts, merchandise, etc. There are any number of artists I like some songs from, but don’t consider myself a fan because I don’t really follow their careers or buy their music. For example, Bryan Adams — he was huge when I was a kid, and I still like some of his nostalgic 80s stuff like “Cuts Like a Knife”, “Run to You”, and “Straight From the The Hero Is Commonly The Simplest And Obsurest Of Men Long Sleeves T Shirt in addition I really love this Heart”. I’ll happily listen when these songs come on, but I don’t actively seek them out and I don’t own any of Adams’ records. Having never spent a dime on any of his music or shows, and being unfamiliar with pretty much anything he’s put out in the last 20 years, I can’t call myself a fan even if I like a few songs. Obviously he didn’t make enough of an impression on me for me to follow his career and seek out new music from him.
